Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI)

At Cannington College, we believe that equality, diversity, and inclusion are more than just values. They are the foundation of everything we do.

Everybody belongs and everyone matters

We celebrate the rich diversity of our college community and work hard to ensure that every person is treated fairly, with dignity and respect.

We are proud to say that:

  • Everyone has the right to feel safe, supported, and heard
  • Discrimination, harassment, and hate of any kind are never tolerated
  • Every learner and team member is given equal access to opportunities to succeed
  • We actively listen, learn and evolve to better meet the needs of all our communities.

This approach applies to everyone who engages with the College, including students, staff, visitors, suppliers, and partners.

A culture of inclusion

We are proud to:

  • Promote and uphold the protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010
  • Provide training and support to staff to create inclusive classrooms and workplaces
  • Build awareness and celebrate cultural and religious events throughout the year
  • Offer support services that reflect the needs of our students, from LGBTQ+ inclusion to mental health support, and beyond.

Zero tolerance

We operate a zero-tolerance policy towards:

  • Discrimination and harassment
  • Targeting an individual’s gender identity, age, or any protected characteristics
  • Racism and race-related incidents
  • Hate crimes, online or offline.

If something isn’t right, we encourage students and staff to speak up. We take every report seriously and always act with care, integrity, and urgency.

Education and self-expression

We take great pride in promoting understanding, standing up to prejudice, and protecting the rights of everyone in our community.

  • We reject all forms of antisemitism, islamophobia, and discrimination toward those who are religious
  • We uphold the statutory duty to protect freedom of expression under the Education Act (1986)
  • Our Equality & Diversity Annual Report outlines the key actions we’ve taken to make progress and drive change each academic year.

Moving forward together

We regularly:

  • Review and update our Equality & Diversity Policy
  • Involve students and staff in EDI forums and awareness campaigns
  • Take feedback seriously to ensure every voice is heard
  • Celebrate key milestones like Pride Month, Black History Month, and Neurodiversity Celebration Week.

British Values

Education is not just about qualifications, it’s about building respectful, inclusive communities where every individual can become a citizen.

Sustainability

Sustainability is a shared responsibility. That’s why we’re working hard to reduce our environmental impact and embed sustainable thinking into the way we learn and work.
