Professional Expectations

Our Professional Expectations set out what you can expect from us, and what we ask from you in return, so we can all achieve success together.

Teaching, learning and working

We are committed to creating and maintaining a calm, supportive, and professional space for everyone to learn and grow.

We will:

  • Promote excellent attendance and punctuality
  • Emphasise the importance of English and maths for your future
  • Encourage you to reflect, stay committed to your learning, and behave to professional standards
  • Prepare you for your next steps — whether that’s employment, further study, or training
  • Expect you to wear the correct PPE in workshops or specialist spaces.

Cannington College & UCS College Group Culture

We are proud to be a community where everyone feels welcome, respected, and safe. We will:

Champion British values

We respect democracy, individual liberty, the rule of law, mutual respect, and tolerance.

Reject hate

We stand firmly against all forms of bullying, harassment, and discrimination.

Celebrate differences

We are all unique. We are proud to champion equality, diversity, and inclusion in everything we do.

Support one another

Regardless of age, disability, gender identity, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or pregnancy

Eco-conscious

We are taking meaningful steps to address the climate emergency and will continue to do so.

Promote healthy living

We encourage a culture of wellbeing to all via good mental & physical health practices.

Lead by example

We act as ambassadors for Cannington College and UCS College Group, both on-and-off campus.

Listen

We listen to feedback and act when needed. Share your thoughts with us on how we can improve.

Community expectations

As a student, you’re a part of a wider community, and we all have a role to play in maintaining an inclusive and professional college environment.

We ask that you:

  • Always wear your lanyard while at college
  • Never use offensive or discriminatory language
  • Vape only in designated areas
  • Avoid eating in classrooms
  • Park in marked bays and follow the 5mph speed limit
  • Dispose of litter properly and follow recycling guidance
  • Follow health, safety, and hygiene rules as set out by the Government and the College
  • Treat college property and equipment with care
  • Dress in a way that reflects a professional learning environment
  • Never bring alcohol, drugs, weapons, pornography, or hateful materials to college
  • Treat others with respect and kindness at all times
  • Understand the impact of harmful sexual behaviour or comments and commit to creating a safe space for all.

Holding ourselves accountable

If you feel we’re not living up to our promises, we encourage you to raise concerns or make a complaint. We’ll always do our best to put things right.

If a student is struggling to meet our expectations, we will respond through our College Disciplinary Procedure. This process is designed to be supportive and restorative, helping students to move forward positively.

By working together and respecting each other, we can all contribute to a college environment that is safe, supportive, and full of opportunity.

British Values

Education is not just about qualifications, it’s about building respectful, inclusive communities where every individual can become a citizen.

Sustainability

Sustainability is a shared responsibility. That’s why we’re working hard to reduce our environmental impact and embed sustainable thinking into the way we learn and work.

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

We celebrate the rich diversity of our college community and work hard to ensure that every person is treated fairly, with dignity and respect.
