Construction, Skills & Innovation Centre

Our Construction Skills and Innovation Centre (CSIC) is a purpose-built training centre created in partnership with EDF Energy.

Hands-on training for Construction & Civil Engineering

The Construction Skills and Innovation Centre (CSIC) is designed to give students and apprentices real-life experience of working on a construction site, using the same equipment and tools they would find in the industry.

The centre is close to Hinkley Point C and provides accommodation for learners travelling from across the UK. Our team is on hand to help with travel and bookings.

Why should we be your training provider?

We like to let our facilities do the talking. At CSIC, you get:

  • An eight-acre purpose-built training site that looks and feels like a real construction site
  • A full range of industry-standard tools, machinery, and equipment to practice on
  • Accredited CPCS and CSCS test centre for nationally recognised qualifications
  • Specialist areas for steel fixing, formwork, groundwork, water networks, and health & safety
  • A supportive, friendly, and expert team.

What we offer

Construction site training

Get hands-on experience with plant machinery, tools, and equipment used by construction and civil engineering professionals.

Plant machinery and CPCS cards

CSIC is a CPCS Test Centre, which means you can gain the Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) cards that prove your skills to employers.

Steel fixing and formwork

We are incredibly proud that CSIC has been recognised as the UK’s leading provider in steel fixing and formwork training.

Groundworks and water utilities

Our facilities include areas to practice digging, laying pipes, and working on water networks.

Health & safety

CSIC provides essential safety training for construction, including courses recognised across the industry.

Apprenticeships at CSIC

CSIC also delivers apprenticeships and NVQs (practical, work-based qualifications). Apprentices learn on-site while earning a wage and gaining skills that help them progress in the construction industry.

Recent Ofsted inspections rated our apprenticeship programme Outstanding, recognising the high level of skills learners develop here.
