The Professional Certificate consists of three 20 credit modules within the BSc (Hons) Animal Management, Ecology and Conservation programme offered at our Cannington Campus.

This certificate has been developed for learners who would like to study general animal management related theory and practical competencies that would be primarily for their own interest and education. The programme would also enable learners who have busy lifestyles or who are engaged in industry to undertake higher learning in a manageable format. In addition, the programme can prepare learners for further higher study and/or employment.

There are two 15-week semesters over the academic year. Each module is studied in a specific semester with a half day attendance. In addition, an academic development session is offered to help progress higher level learning skills. External research work and assessments are set to be completed outside of college.

Topics may include:

  • Management of Captive Animals
  • Animal Health Diagnostics
  • Enclosure and Enrichment Design.

Assessment Methods

The modules are assessed via 100% coursework, which could comprise of written/practical reports, case studies, essays, vivas, oral presentations or posters. There is also a Time Constrained Essay for the Enclosure and Enrichment Design module.

Progression Options

You could progress to the Foundation Degree or BSc (Hons) qualification in Animal Management, Ecology and Conservation after successfully completing the Professional Certificate.

Entry Requirements

The nature of this study requires GCSEs at grade 4 and above in English language and mathematics or equivalent qualification(s) Applicants with English as their second language must have a minimum IELTS Level 6 or equivalent.
