Course Overview

This course is for anyone who requires training in operating a Slinger/Signaller.

You do not need to have done any previous training.

On this course candidates will learn how to:

  • Establish the weight and dimensions of loads and communicate this information to the crane operator.
  • Select appropriate lifting tackle and attach and detach it correctly and safely.
  • Use clear and unambiguous signals to direct the actions of a crane moving loads of various weights and dimensions.
  • Determine the serviceability of lifting accessories, and maintain and store them.

Assessment Methods

  • Theory Test – a professional discussion carried out on a one to one basis with the CPCS tester. You must pass this test in order to take the practical test.
  • Practical Test.
    • Progression Options

      Once you have your red CPCS trained operator card, you have two years to register for and complete your NVQ Plant Operations – Slinger/Signaller. When this is completed you will be able to apply for a Blue CPCS Competent Operator card.
