Course Overview

The Royal Horticulture Society’s (RHS) Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Horticulture is a new and updated programme that can be taken on its own or as part of the Certificate in the Principles and Practices of Horticulture.

The RHS Level 2 Certificate in Practical Horticulture consists of eight units. The units and their content are as follows:

  • Plant Identification
  • Plant Establishment
  • Plant Propagation
  • Plant Health
  • Plant Care
  • Plant Pruning
  • Garden Features
  • Grassed Areas

This course is designed for those who wish to combine an understanding of the scientific principles together with the development of a range of practical horticultural skills; therefore this course is ideal for the keen amateur gardener and those wishing to gain employment in a range of horticultural industries.

Assessment Methods

The assessment of this course is by a range of in-college practical assessments and plant identification tests together with an online test and external assessment.

Progression Options

After further study of the RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Horticulture, students can progress to the RHS level 3 programme.
