Course Overview

If your job involves applying pesticides in a commercial role then you are legally required to hold an appropriate Certificate of Competence by the Control of Pesticide Regulations. You should have already successfully achieved the foundation module (PA1).

This qualification is designed specifically for those who wish to apply pesticides using various types of handheld applicators. Options delivered at this College include hydraulic nozzle and atomiser (PA6A) or hydraulic atomiser and rotary nozzle near water (PA6AW). Please let us know which option you require at the time of booking.

This course will cover:

  • Environmental risks
  • Legal and safety requirements
  • Interpretation of the label
  • Preparation and maintenance of the knapsack sprayer
  • Nozzle types and uses
  • Calibration
  • Filling and mixing procedures
  • Safe spraying application
  • Application record sheets
  • Cleaning and storage procedures
  • Safe disposal of unwanted pesticides

To successfully achieve this course, you will need to complete and pass an independent assessment comprising of observation of practical performance and testing of underpinning knowledge.

This course is delivered over 1 day with the assessment taking place the day after training. Testing is carried out by an independent City & Guilds assessor.

If you are already enrolled on a full-time course at the College you may be eligible for a discount, however depending upon your programme of study, you may need to attend outside of your current timetable.

In the unlikely event that your course is cancelled, we will refund your fees. However, these courses are run on viable numbers and if you choose to cancel or withdraw from your course, full fees are payable, unless we can fill your space.

  • Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides (PA1).
  • You must be 16 years old or over to do this course.
