Course Overview

A practical course designed for the professional user or anyone who requires the National Proficiency Test Council (NPTC) Certificate of Competence.

The course covers tree climbing and aerial rescue techniques. On successful completion, students will be able to climb safely to any point within the canopy of a mature tree.

Provides the practical skills and underpinning knowledge that is required prior to being assessed for the Certificate of Competence, as required by legislation.

Learners will be required to bring the following:

  • Steel-toe capped boots suitable for tree climbing
  • All weather non-snag outdoor clothing
  • Lunch – a packed lunch and flask, as the majority of the course will be off-site
  • Writing materials (preferably a small pocket notebook)
  • An emergency whistle (available from most outdoor pursuits shops)
  • Sharp retractable pocket knife suitable for cutting 14mm nylon rope.

Leaners may also bring their own tree climbing equipment should they wish, which will need to be checked for suitability by the course instructor.

Assessment Methods

A practical half day assessment with an external NPTC assessor following the course.

Progression Options

NPTC Chainsaw Operation CS39. (CS30, CS31 and CS38 must be complete to make this progression).
