Technical & Professional Qualifications

Whatever you dream of becoming, from equestrian to farmer, we have a course that will set you on the right path.

Learn by doing

Technical & Professional qualifications (formally known as BTECs) are designed to bridge the gap between education and real careers. At Cannington College, our hands-on courses are perfect for students who learn best by doing.

You’ll still cover theory in class, but much of your learning will be practical, involving learning in everything from workshops, salons, studios, labs, farms, or even out in the field.

This will help you understand how things work in real life, and you’ll also be able to complete work experience to put these new skills into action.

If you didn’t achieve a 4 or above in English & maths at GCSE, don’t panic!

We ensure you’ll have the chance to work towards them alongside your main study programme. English & maths above a 4 is often a minimum requirement for employers and higher education institutions. You’ll be able to retake the exams and have specialist support to help you succeed.

Cannington College offers a large range of land-based Technical & Professional courses across more than a dozen different sectors, ensuring that you can choose the course that is right for you.

β€œBeing a residential student means I get extra hands-on experience, like helping with lambing before college even starts. We do a lot of machinery work, learning GPS, and my work experience on a local farm is crucial. I want to own my own farm, and these practical skills and insights from trips like the LAMMA show are vital.”
