Equine Studies

Love horses? At Cannington College, we’ll help you turn that passion into a rewarding profession and help you build a career doing what you love.

Your passion for horses can solve a critical skills shortage

The demand for high-quality equine care, management, and coaching staff is currently higher than the workforce can meet. This makes a recognised qualification a direct route to employment.

Our Equine courses are taught at our dedicated Equestrian Centre, a fully equipped, BHS-approved facility offering expert training in riding, care, and stable management.

Why Study Equine?

The equine industry offers global opportunities in riding, training, management, rehabilitation, and beyond. With strong practical skills and the right qualifications, you’ll be in demand.

You’ll develop hands-on skills in:

  • Horse care and stable management
  • Health, nutrition, and welfare
  • Event preparation and yard duties
  • Industry-standard practices and BHS training.

Practical excellence & professional readiness

Courses combine practical, hands-on training with classroom-based theory. You’ll work with horses daily, take part in events, and benefit from staff with real industry experience.

Located just a short shuttle ride from Cannington College, the centre also offers on-site accommodation, giving you flexibility and a supportive learning environment.

Previous students have progressed to work at riding schools and livery yards, competitive stables and training centres, equine therapy and rehabilitation centres, and a select few now work internationally.

A career with excellent job security and clear progression

A large majority of UK riding centres () are struggling to hire the staff they need to operate at full capacity, with many holding long waiting lists for clients. This shortfall is keenly felt across roles from grooms to riding coaches – if you think you can fill that gap, come and visit us on an open day and see if you’re the right fit!
