CLEAN ENERGY TECHNICAL EXCELLENCE COLLEGE

CETEC Complete Parallax Section

BUILDING THE SOUTH WEST’S CLEAN ENERGY
SKILLS NETWORK

UCS College Group is one of five colleges in England to have been awarded Clean Energy Technical Excellence College (CETEC) status.

Established to help strengthen the UK’s clean energy skills pipeline, together, the colleges form a national network designed to respond to the workforce needs of the transition to secure, low-carbon energy. That means developing not only specialist engineers, but also the welders, electricians, fabricators, technicians and construction professionals needed to deliver projects across nuclear, hydrogen, offshore wind and other clean technologies.

UCS College Group is the designated CETEC for the South West Region which is increasingly recognised as critical to delivering the UK’s drive to net-zero.

The CETEC will act as the hub, working with partners, employers, colleges and stakeholders, across the region to create a connected offer.

Capital funding will support specialist facilities across the region, enabling students to access relevant training closer to home, giving employers a clearer route to the skills and talent they need.

CORE OBJECTIVES

To boost skills provision in direct response to local and national employer needs

To deliver high-quality teaching practice and curricula, including specialist CPD for staff

To leverage employer engagement and investment in sector skills provision

To collaborate with a network of providers, via a hub and spoke model, to boost the supply and quality of sector-specific skills provision both locally and nationally

To promote clear pathways for learners to progress into work in growth-driving industries or into higher level relevant courses

Accelerating the delivery of Clean Energy skills across the South West

CETEC will build on the South West’s distinctive blue-green economy and experience gained through major projects, such as Hinkley Point C.

Colleges will collaborate with employers,
universities, awarding organisations and sector bodies to shape
provision around real and emerging workforce needs.

Partners will co-design and test curricula, share specialist expertise and connect training with new labour markets.

Collaboration will extend beyond facilities and courses. CETEC will support employer brokerage, placements, specialist continuing professional development, staff secondments, train-the-trainer activity, labour market intelligence and quality assurance.

Ensuring a future-forward network of expertise

By sharing knowledge and coordinating provision, the network can
improve access to training, strengthen teaching and keep skills aligned with industry change. The ambition is to create clear, rewarding pathways into clean energy careers while helping employers build the workforce required for delivery.

As the South West hub, UCS College Group will connect regional
partners and ensure local expertise contributes to national priorities —supporting a more capable workforce and a secure, net-zero energy future.

Hear from Simon Brewer

Group Director, Partnerships & Major Projects

“CETEC status recognises our experience developing and delivering the skills required across clean energy. Clean energy skills are in short supply across the UK. Meeting demand requires more than specialist engineers; we also need welders, electricians, fabricators, technicians and construction professionals in sectors such as nuclear, hydrogen, offshore wind and other clean technologies.

CETEC will expand access, strengthen employer collaboration and create pathways into rewarding careers. It will share expertise gained from projects such as HPC, invest in facilities and inspire people to build the skills needed for a secure, net-zero energy future.”
