There was a real sense of excitement in the air as Level 2 Forestry & Arboriculture students at Cannington College took part in their first practical climbing session of the year.
After learning how to safely set up professional climbing systems, students took to the trees for their first ascents, experiencing first-hand what it’s like to work as an arborist. For many, it was their first time climbing using specialist ropes, harnesses and industry-standard equipment, marking an exciting milestone in their career journeys into the Land-based sector.
The practical session gave students the chance to learn beyond the classroom and put their knowledge into action, building both confidence and technical skills while working outdoors. From learning essential safety procedures to making their first climb into the trees, the day offered a glimpse into the rewarding and varied career opportunities available within arboriculture. The course itself combines practical skills with knowledge of tree care, woodland environments, arboricultural operations and industry practices.
This first climb is just the beginning. Throughout the year, students will continue to develop their skills through a wide range of hands-on practical activities, gaining valuable experience and preparing for careers that quite literally take them to new heights.
For anyone considering their next step after school, the session showcased exactly what makes studying Arboriculture at Cannington College so unique: a chance to learn, challenge yourself, and build a career among the trees.
